Description: In Hawaiian culture, there is no greater icon and ambassador of surfing than Duke Paoa Kahanamoku. The mainlander, Tom Blake, awed by his presence followed Duke to the warm waters of Diamond Head. In his historic narrative, Hawaiian Surfriders, Blake recounts a large board that Duke carved from a large redwood blank. The board was so long; Duke was covering sections and going faster than ever before. From that one ride, Duke was hooked on the power of length and glide. Hobie Surfboards has experimented and proven the enjoyment provided by a lengthy pintail, such as the Legacy. However, honed by the cobble stone breaks of San Clemente and Dana Point, the Encore builds upon what weve learned. On some occasions, like Kahanamokus home break of Waikiki, the rider can take advantage of a board with added length. The Encore not only gets you in early, but the elongated rail and bottom contour creates easy rotation without affecting trim. The surfer will be so content that he or she will be standing, high and dry, just dying for an Encore!
